The Wheatland Kings are excited to announce the addition of Zac Searby to their staff as goaltending coach.
Searby, who had a brief stint with the Wheatland Kings in his career, is thrilled to be coming to the junior B club and has some familiarity with head coach Jeremy Blumes.
“I worked with Jeremy a couple of years back with the Royals midget double A group and things worked out, the goalies seemed pretty happy and saw improvement throughout the year,” said Searby.
He is currently employed with David Marcoux’s School of Goaltending (D.M.S.G) where he has worked with many professional and junior goalies, and is hoping to bring his experience to the Kings crease.
“When it comes to juniors, all the way down to atom, the kids are focusing on tracking the puck, seeing it all the way, focusing on the second and third shot as opposed to watching it come in,” said Searby.
He will be looking to add a certain style to the goalies that will make them successful.
“A very hybrid goalie and a very reactive goalie. I’m not a huge, big, blocking style of goalie,” he said. “If you can do the job and get the job done, then absolutely, but I need a guy that can read the shot and be able to react.”
This is the first go around for Searby being full-time on a junior team, and he is looking forward to seeing his goalies on a nightly basis.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun seeing them grow (and) seeing them play hard,” said Searby.
