Many young rodeo participants showed off their lassoing skills at the annual High School Rodeo on May 16 and 17 at the Strathmore Ag Society rodeo grounds.
Event organizer Crystal Stevens was enthused with all the riders’ performances despite a wet first day.
“It was excellent, there was no problems with the weather,” said Stevens. “The grounds were pretty good and no one got hurt, everyone was safe, the contestants were happy.”
She praised the local contingent that put on a great show.
“We had approximately 11 local contestants. My kids, Hayze and Destiny, were first and second in the team roping on Sunday,” said Stevens.
“Makayla and Shelby Boisjoli won the average in the team roping and they were from Langdon.”
She also added that there were many other locals that gained points for placing one through 10 in the rodeo events.
The points will be carried into the season end event in Nanton on May 23 – 24, in where, if they finish in the Top 10, they could earn a berth in the provincials in Grande Prairie from June 5-7.
The community was very supportive of the rodeo.
“The Town of Strathmore gave the kids the pool after the rodeo. The theatre also gave the kids $5 movies with their numbers,” said Stevens.
“All the kids got to enjoy the community which is something new for the High School Rodeo in Strathmore. We appreciated all the community involvement and sponsorship.”
The biggest thing that Stevens would change next year is to try to encourage more people to come out and watch an entertaining rodeo.
