Thrift sale

The Strathmore United Church thrift sale is ramping up for the fall season sale, which will be held Oct. 23-25.
“The shed next to the church is filled wall to wall,” said volunteer Sharon White. “It is going to be a big sale this time.”
Each year, in the fall and spring, the church opens its doors to thrifty shoppers looking to get a great deal.
The sale is always held the third week of April and October. Those weeks were picked because that was when family allowance cheques would come out, so it allowed families to stop in an purchase what they needed, and may not have been able to afford otherwise.
The first sale was in 1976, and since then it has grown and been a continued success. Prices have barely changed at the sale over the past 38 years, since the idea has always been to provide sale items to those in need.
Bargain hunters can begin shopping by 9 a.m. on Oct. 23, until 8 p.m. The doors will be open again 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 24, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25. All proceeds go to support local projects.
