An RCMP officer in Gleichen, Const. Depagie, was charged with assault causing bodily harm and unlawful confinement on Oct. 16. The charges stem from a November 2013 incident, and are being laid in response to a public complaint received by the Gleichen detachment. Depagie will make a first appearance before the Siksika Nation Provincial Court on Nov. 6 to enter a plea.

“Often times when we deal with the public they’re not always happy with that, it stands to reason. They can feel free to make a public complaint and I think this is the result of someone making a complaint,” said Cpl. Sharon Franks with the K division, media relations. “I don’t know how often it exactly happens to be honest with you, but we have a governing agency that takes the complaints, which is the Public Complaints Commission.” Depagie’s status is currently under review and there will not be a determination about possible suspension until the review is completed.
