Volunteers are needed for the Dollars with Sense program coming back to Crowther Memorial Junior High on Nov. 5, and for Beisker School, also in November. The program is offered by Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta (JASA), and has been in Strathmore for 12 years. Tristan Periard, regional coordinator for southeast prairie JASA hope to get five to 10 volunteers for Nov. 5, and also needs five to 10 volunteers for other deliveries throughout the school year.
“JASA encourages members of the local business community to deliver programs, thus providing positive mentorship experiences,” said Periard.
“Students learn from role models who have completed their high school education and are gainfully employed. Business leaders support JA initiatives by providing students with the opportunity to participate in valuable JA programs, validating the impact of corporate citizenship in the communities in which they operate, while providing youth with access to experiential business learning’s.”
Volunteers will lead class discussion and involve students in different activities; they will independently prepare for the visits, with training from Junior Achievement provided; they will facilitate the program materials; bring practical and personal business experience to the students; help the students develop confidence, leadership and critical thinking skills; and will communicate with volunteers partners and Junior Achievement staff in a timely manner.
Anyone interested in volunteering, whether for the November dates, or into the future, is asked to contact Tristan Periard at 403-312-2129, or by e-mail at tperiard@jasouthalberta.org.
