The results are in from the most recent Provincial Achievement test and diploma exams, 2013-2014, and the results look good says Golden Hills School Division (GHSD).
“We provide students with the tools they need to be successful 21st century learners,” said Bevan Daverne, Superintendent of Schools in a press release.
“This is made possible by the partnership of teachers, support staff, and parents through their commitment and dedication to student learning”.
In GHSD the percentage of students achieving the acceptable standard has increased from the previous year in two of the 10 tests from Grades 3, 6 and 9.
The percentage of students who reached the standard of excellence has also improved in four of the 10 tests.
Grade 3 English language arts and math were above the provincial average and Grade 3 math, Grade 6 science and Grade 9 English language arts; social and science were also above the provincial standard of excellence.
For the nine diploma courses GHSD students exceeded the standard of excellence benchmark of 15 per cent in four out of the nine.
“We are facilitating students in becoming strong critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators and creative doers while ensuring foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. Our teachers are using high yield strategic instructional practices that improve student learning.” Dr. Kandace Jordan, Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services, in a press release.
“Our investment in professional development and teacher collaboration has supported the development of teaching practices that best enhance student learning.”
The provincial accountability pillar measures the Provincial Achievement test and diploma exams. Principals will share their school’s results with parents a school council meeting, and an annual education plan and results report which will be posted on each school’s website by Nov. 30.
