A 54-year-old man from Siksika Nation has been charged with a number of violence-related charges after he allegedly struck a family member repeatedly with a knife and axe.
The woman, 53, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was released shortly afterwards.
The incident occurred on June 24, when Gleichen RCMP responded to a complaint of a violent assault.
“(Her injuries) were all treatable in the hospital and she was released and went home,” said Gleichen RCMP Sgt. Tyler Codling. “It’s rare. I don’t think there’s been a significant increase in these types of crimes.”
An RCMP release stated that Clark Manybears was identified by the RCMP but had already fled the area in a stolen vehicle. He was later located by the Calgary Police Service in Calgary where he was arrested for outstanding warrants out of Saskatchewan and the incident on the Siksika reserve.
Manybears was remanded in custody to appear in court in Siksika on June 28. According to Codling, charges have been laid but the investigation is ongoing.
