Strathmore 2015 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games

We have the perfect opportunity for you to share your time, skills, talents and experiences by being a Volunteer for the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games being held in Strathmore July 16-19.
We expect over 1,200 seniors to participate in 17 Sport and Cultural events, but require 700 volunteers to support the four-day event. You may be wondering how and where all these Volunteers will be needed. This week, we would like to feature three areas:
• Food Centre – Participants will be housed and fed while they are in Strathmore. We need volunteers to assist in preparing 2,000 breakfasts, bag lunches and dinners for the participants and volunteers. With meals there is always clean up, so bussing tables would be great for individuals or if a group or business wanted to do some team building.
• Opening and Closing Ceremonies – We need 85 Volunteers to assist with the direction of traffic and pedestrian flow. The Opening Ceremonies will take place in the Grandstand on the Rodeo Grounds on Thursday, July 16 and Closing Ceremonies will be in the Civic Centre on July 18.
• Pre-Game Volunteers – From April to June we require volunteers for the upcoming fundraising events like the golf tournament on May 30 at the Strathmore Golf Club or the Beatles Tribute Concert, Britain’s Finest “The Most Realistic Beatles Tribute Band in Existence” on June 20 at the Strathmore Arena.
To volunteer, go to our website: www.2015strathmoregames.ca and click on volunteer, and fill out the online form, or drop by the Games Office at 233, 3 Avenue, Strathmore. Volunteer Canada indicates “more than half of Canada’s 161,000 non-profit and charitable organizations have no paid staff and rely solely on volunteers. 12.7 million volunteers contribute close to two billion hours annually. Imagine what your community would look like if all that went away? Volunteers help improve quality of life for others. They also gain valuable experience and develop new skills. As well, studies show that involved Canadians enjoy an improved overall health.”
