The story of Evelyn Brand, a woman who dedicated her life to missionary work, will be coming to the Strathmore Alliance Church on Jan. 17. Members of UpsideDown Productions, which includes local Janey Swalwell who portrays Brand, will perform ‘Give me this Mountain’.
“It’s basically just a missionary biography abut Evelyn Brand, she is very inspiring, she became a missionary when she was 30 and she was a missionary in the hills until she died at the age of 95,” said Swalwell.
“Its really just an incredible story.”
The Brand family brought gospel to a remote part of India. When Brand lost her husband she refused to leave. Her son Paul pioneered leprosy treatment among Brand’s hill people.
The performance is free to attend, but there is a request for donations for the Strathmore Pregnancy Care Centre (PCC).
“I contacted the PCC to see if they would like to have any money collected from the free will offering donated to them and then asked the Strathmore Alliance if we could use the facility to host the drama,” said Beverly Swalwell.
“I was hoping to volunteer for the PCC myself but have not been able to, so saw this as an opportunity to raise money for a local group in our community.”
Earlier that day the drama troupe will be in Gleichen performing ‘What if’ at the Gleichen Community Church.
“That one is an interactive play, it tells a lot of Bible stories and the theme of the whole play is based off of a Bible verse that just talks about how all things work together for good for those who love God,” said Janey.
“That one’s really good for children and teens, sometimes, it’s really good because it brings a lot of drama to them and allows them to be part of it.”
The Gleichen performance will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and is also free to attend. ‘Give me this Mountain’ will be held at 7 p.m. that same evening.
