The UFA Bisons started off the New Year with a pair of home wins and gaining four valuable points.
The local triple-A midget team was able to shoot up to third in the South standings with a 4-2 win over the Leduc Oil Kings on Jan. 3 and a 5-0 shutout win over the Calgary Northstars on Jan. 4.
“We’re doing things that we really worked hard at and it’s come together for us,” said head coach Dan MacDonald. “We’re moving the puck well, we’re going to the net well .We have a real strong belief in how good we can be, so those are all the positives.”
The puck movement appeared to be too much for their opponents and the Bisons were able to use their strengths against the smaller teams
“I like the way we moved the puck so we get opportunities at the net. We’re getting 30 shots a game and that’s something we weren’t doing earlier in the year,” said MacDonald.
The win against the Northstars gave the Herd some breathing room in the standings and have second place in site.
“It gives (us) a couple of points on them and it makes it tougher for them to catch us. We’re actually looking (at) second place if we can get it,” said MacDonald.
The feeling inside the room is very positive amongst the boys and it is showing on the ice.
“I think we have a positive feeling that we’re good and that’s something you’ve got to have,” said MacDonald.
The Bisons have their lone game next weekend in Medicine Hat against the Tigers (5:15 p.m.) on Jan. 10.
