The Strathmore Lecrosse Club had another successful year with some teams winning banners and medals.
“Highlights included a very successful Redneck Rumble tournament, where nearly all of our participating Venom teams received a medal in their division,” said Chris Iversen, president of the Strathmore Lacrosse Club.
“Congratulations to our peewee B and bantam B boys teams, and one of our novice teams for winning gold and a banner.”
Sports associations would not be possible with out the efforts of the parents, coaches and tournament organizers who spend many hours making sure everything is organized and is ran smoothly as possible.
A big thank you to Michelle Brown and her family for the countless hours organizing and running the Redneck Rumble,” said Iversen.
“After the midget B bronze medal game, Jody Stolz was honoured for his efforts as he was recognized for his tireless efforts over the past 11 years as club president and bringing lacrosse to Strathmore.”
Strathmore Lacrosse Club had the honour of being one of the host clubs for the annual Canada Day tournament, with the help of the volunteers.
“A big thank you to all of our members who volunteered to help make the Canada’s longest running lacrosse tournament a big success.” said Iversen.
As for next season, the task will be to secure more arena time, which has proven to be difficult as the player enrolment grows.
“Challenges for next season and beyond continue to be securing floor time. Lacrosse is gaining popularity in Strathmore, and we have seen tremendous growth, particularly in the last two years,” said Iversen.
Iversen believes that the issue needs of limited times needs to be addressed as more players get involved with the game of lacrosse.
“This is a challenge that really needs to be addressed in order to move forward and to continue to improve the quality of recreation opportunities in our town,” he said.
Strathmore Lacrosse Club would like to thank all of their sponsors, local businesses, volunteers and members of the community for their support this season.
