With the goal of supporting the community, and rewarding deserving youth, Lakewood Meadows has donated $3,690 worth of Calgary Flames tickets, 10 pairs, to Strathmore High School (SHS).
Skyscape Inc. represents the developer behind the new Strathmore lakefront community of Lakewood Meadows.
“We wanted to do something with the tickets to help a most deserving group of individuals in our community, our youth,” said Neal Coulter, of Skyscape Inc.
“We discussed doing a contest, giveaway or an online promotion but ultimately we felt that a donation to the high school would go a long way to allowing the school itself to choose deserving students and staff who they felt would benefit from the extra recognition. We know the high school will put them to good use.”
Coulter, a former NHL hockey player, and the team at Lakewood Meadows know that enjoying professional sports, especially hockey, can be tough for many youth and their families.
“Sometimes going to a special event like a Calgary Flames hockey game may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of these youth. We are happy to be a part of helping them to feel special and support a school that works hard and is making a difference in Strathmore,” said Coulter.
The tickets were presented to the school on Nov. 19.
“We were caught a little bit by surprise by this generous gift. Obviously our first thought is a way to either recognize students or to give to students who wouldn’t have an opportunity to get to an NHL game,” said Kyle Larson, associate principal for SHS.
“We certainly have lots of kids who come to mind, who are great kids that just need a lift sometimes. Students are our first focus, but it’s also nice sometimes to recognize staff who have gone above and beyond too so we may use them for staff as well at some point.”
Lakewood Meadows is currently completing Phase 1 of development. It’s a new waterfront community located in the northwest corner of Strathmore, between two golf courses. Phase 1 features 77 lots, with a variety of housing types.
