Strathmore High School Athletics awarded certain athletes at their first annual fall banquet on Nov. 27.
“I think it let the athletes know how much we appreciate the time and the commitment they put in, many of our athletes are multi-sport athletes and the increased amount of time that kids have to put into academics,” said SHS athletic director Carrie Westgard. “We did a good job of recognizing them but I think this is another step in saying thank you very much, we appreciate what you do and they definitely deserve the recognition. We hope it’s going to get bigger and better.”
The banquet was a true testament to how committed the players are to providing excellence in school athletics.
“We recognize a lot of stuff here at the high school (such as) academics and all the community things that everybody does. The kids are awesome and they need to know it in the end,” said Westgard. “You get to meet so many different kids and each of them is different and a blessing and you learn more about yourself depending on what the kid is like.
“I don’t think anyone regrets coaching, it’s hard and takes a lot of time, but in the end the reward is definitely worth it.”
The award winners’ names can be viewed on the plaques in the hallway beside the gym.
The athletics department will hold another banquet in June for the winter and spring sports.
