Holy Cross Collegiate (HCC) has a girls rugby team thanks to coaches who have volunteered their time to help form, and train the team.
With lots of hard work and dedication this team spent the entire last year, 2013, practicing and developing their skills. They were not able to play in any leagues as they were thought to be too new of a team. They needed to prove themselves. Last year’s highlight was entering in the Springbank sevens tournament. We left that tournament winning two games, tying two games and losing two games. It was a great weekend, and a great experience for our team.
This year I think they are well on their way to proving just that. We have been to two tournaments and played Crowther a few times this season. We entered our senior team and joined Crowther to form a junior girls team in the May 30 tournament. The senior girls HCC team left that tournament with medals and a very deserved second place. They had also played three games against a senior Calgary team told to be very tough and strong.
The entire team (and their parents) would like to send out a huge thank you to our coach Brennan Grasdahl and Mrs. Toungay for stepping up and making this a wonderful season. Our senior team should be very proud of what they have accomplished this year. Hopefully next year we will join the league as now we have proven we can hold our own.
