The Strathmore Curling Club held their first juvenile and bantam bonspiels of the season from Nov. 28-30 at the curling club. The event saw a lot of engaging, talented curlers enjoying the game.
“All the talent that’s coming up is huge, they work really hard and they curled really well,” said coach Lynette Aschenbrenner. “The one set of boys (bantams and juveniles) that won the ‘C’ division were drawing really well so that makes a big difference and the other ones weren’t drawing very well but hitting when they needed to.”
The increased participation from the teams made the bonspiel a success on this frigid weekend.
“The bonspiel went really well. I guess the only thing that worked against us was Mother Nature,” said Aschenbrenner. “It’s definitely getting more popular, it filled up very fast, we were fully probably by the end of October. In years past we still had openings right up until the bonspiel.”
Aschbrenner is hoping the popularity of the game with the youth will convince the adults to come out.
The club’s next event will be hosting the shorty bonspiel on Jan. 3.
