Strathmore’s Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games committee has a raffle you’re sure to love. The 2015 Dream Vacation raffle will see up to 12 lucky winners heading off on vacation with $5,000 travel vouchers.
“There’s 12 $5,000 travel vouchers, so they can go anywhere. All of the prizes will be drawn on April 21 or sooner, depending on how tickets go. People have more than one chance to win. If their name gets drawn out first, their name goes back in the draw and it can be drawn again,” said Cave Starling, Friends of the Games director.
Tickets are selling for $100 each, and as long as you’re over 18, and purchase the tickets in Alberta, you can have a shot at winning a vacation.
Years ago in Medicine Hat there was a trip of the month raffle. Starling remembered that raffle and was hoping to do something along the same lines here, the only difference being specified trips can’t be sold, which is why it is trip vouchers. The vouchers are through Swan Valley Travel Strathmore.
Tickets for the 2015 Dream Vacation went on sale on July 23, and will be sold until Apr. 20, 2015 unless they sell out prior to that date. Tickets can be purchased at the games office at 233, 3rd Ave; call ahead to ensure someone will be there at 403-934-1580 (ext: 300).
On Aug. 1 a second fundraising initiative was started, the provincial Hole-In-One Skills Challenge.
“So what will happen is people will go into participating golf clubs throughout Alberta and they enter the skills challenge for $2 and that makes them eligible to win 50 per cent of an unlimited Alberta-wide pool,” said Starling.
“I’m an avid golfer and it’s just a nice, inexpensive way to create some interest and if the interest grows, the pot will grow and people could be playing for $500, or $1,000 or $1,500 pots.”
When the $2 is paid, half will go into the prize pot and half of it will go to the Summer Games. The challenge will run Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 this year and then hopefully from May 1 to Sept. 30, 2015 said Starling.
There are approximately 20 clubs involved in the challenge so far. Full details on the challenge and a list of the participating golf courses can be found by going to 2015strathmoregames.ca.
There is a chance for someone to win daily, and the winner will get the money from all of the clubs involved. The challenge will then reset.
The Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games committee needs to raise a whopping $1.3 million for the event.
