MLA Arno Doerkson was in Strathmore to speak to his constituents and update them on how things are going in Alberta. He talked generally about where we’re at economically in the province and about the strong investment that is being seen across the province, which he said is consistent with the growth seen over the last couple of years.
“Specifically the record land sales for oil and development that has taken place over the course of the last year,” said Doerkson.
“Particularly, I think the last sale of the year saw a record price for one particular land base. Overall the year was a record year for land sale revenue for the province.”
He said it indicates confidence from the oil and gas sector in continuing to develop the oil and gas industry in this province, and it bodes well for a wide range of service industries that service the oil and gas industry.
“I think we’re seeing that across many parts of the province, where companies are a little busier than they’ve been, there’s some optimism back in the system,” said Doerkson.
“Clearly the last number of years have been challenging for small businesses, but I think there’s optimism going forward and that’s certainly positive.”
Members of Wildrose Alliance are currently campaigning for their own election and Doerkson said it’s not a surprise there will be someone representing the oppositions interest. He said he would continue to stay focused on representing the people in the area. The upcoming federal election may not directly affect him, but he said they would definitely follow the results.
