One lucky hockey fan had the opportunity of a lifetime on March 6 when he had the chance to be trainer-for-the-day with the Calgary Flames. Cyle Clayton went to see the Flames after his mom had fluked onto a contest on the Flames website.
“We entered it online. I was trying to find out how to put his birthday on the jumbo-tron. Then I just entered online and they called two days later and said he won,” said Cyle’s mom Heather.
Cyle was given two free tickets, had the chance to go into the Flames dressing room and sit on the bench during warm up.
“When I got to sit on the bench,” said Cyle, when asked about his favourite part of the day.
Before warm-up, all of the Flames gave him a high-five as he held the gate open for them. When they were done warm-up, they high fived him again and then he got to meet Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross. Cyle said his two favourite Flames players are Glencross and Robyn Regehr.
“He plays hockey in town, he is a huge hockey fan and he has some favourite Flames. It was amazing,” said Heather.
“He was on the jumbo-tron, they put him on the jumbo-tron as the trainer-for-the-day.”
He was given the game puck, an offical Flames Jersey and got the chance to sit and watch the team up close until the game started.
Another favourite part of the day for Cyle was, “when I got my jersey signed” by Iginla and Glencross.
Cyle looked a little shy on Tuesday March 8 when fellow Strathmore hockey players and their parents came up to congratulate him. Cyle plays centre for the Strathmore Fire Storm and would like to play for the NHL.
