Annually Re/Max offices across Canada hosts a Yard Sale for the Cure with 100 per cent of the funds raised going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The yard sale began in 2005, when Rachael Smith held the first sale in her Toronto beach community.
“For us, it’s our first year, because we’re a brand new office,” said Michelle Eldjarnson, with Chestermere Re/Max.
Eldjarnson said they are collecting items, but are also letting people set up their own tables in their own spots and make a donation.
“It’s no charge, just a donation. So we’re not charging a rental fee at all, and what ever people can give for sure is always welcome. There’s certainly no set limit,” said Eldjarnson.
The yard sale will take place May 28. Re/Max Chestermere has partnered with the Chestermere Community Association to be able to host the sale.
“They’ve graciously lent us the use of the curling rink for the day,” said Eldjarnson.
Re/Max will also have a booth set up at the yard sale as well. Eldjarnson said they will be looking for every day items that anyone can use, such as household things and furniture. She also said since camping season will be upon us at the time of the yard sale, camping gear and things for motor homes would probably also be great donations.
“We’re looking forward to it, we think it’s a great cause, and it’s nice to be able to give back for sure,” said Eldjarnson.
Since 2005 the yard sale has grown and is now a signature fundraiser for the foundation. To date, over $725,000 has been raised to aid with breast cancer research, awareness and education.
