It was a jam-pa
cked weekend of hockey at the Rockyford arena as the Rockyford Ponies Bantam Tier Five team hosted their tournament.
“It was really good because the competition was really close,” said Lynn Johnson, tournament organizer and manager of the Ponies. “Pretty much all of the games were tight.”
In the tournament were two teams from Cochrane, two from Lethbridge, and one each from Beiseker, Airdrie and Rockyford.
Johnson said they had two more teams than usual, and that interest came from teams from Seattle and Saskatchewan.
The Rockyford team started out strong with a win over the Cochrane Red Dogs March 19, but lost in their second game which then sent them to the “C” final.
The team was down four players at this point, two because of injuries in the tournament.
“They were really disappointed for sure,” said Johnson.
The team ended up calling up some players to fill the spots.
Johnson said they want to thank all of those who supported the tournament including volunteers, parents and coaches.
The Rockyford Ponies had finished the regular season in second place in their tier.
