WARRACK,Gwendolyn Margaret

(nee Jones)

With heavy hearts and a lifetime of beautiful memories, we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Gwendolyn Margaret Warrack, on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Gwen was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Born just as the war was drawing to a close, her parents, Mal and Margaret Jones, were overjoyed to welcome her as a little sister for her older brother, George. After the family grew to include her younger siblings, Jimmy and Ruth, the Jones family packed up and moved back to Cheadle, Alberta, to farm alongside Grandpa Jackson.

Growing up on the farm, Gwen was a sharp little girl with a natural flair for leadership.  Her all-round abilities as a scholar and athlete stood her in good stead as she lived her life with intelligence and verve.

It was through old family ties that Gwen first met Bruce Warrack, and she famously set her sights on him when she was still just a pre-teen. Her determination paid off, leading to a beautiful 53-year marriage. Together, Gwen and Bruce raised a family of four children and built a life rooted in the land. Gwen was an integral partner in the growth and success of their grain and cattle operation, Bruce Farms Ltd.

In 2016, Gwen faced her biggest challenge in life when she lost Bruce to cancer. She managed to soldier on bravely without him, leaning into the deep love and support of the family they built together. Gwen’s tenacious spirit outlives her, and her incredible legacy lives on through her four children and their families: Jeff (Christine) Warrack, Ron (Kelly) Warrack, Sonny (Michelle) Warrack, and Jo-Anne (Mike Barrett).  Her sixteen grandchildren were her ultimate pride and joy: Russel (Diana), Rachel (Jeff), Erin (Brendan), Jack, Katie (Chad), Danny (Vanessa), Derek (Nicole), Jill (Chad), Jake (Ruth), Meg (Kyle), Jemma (Lane), Ray, Ashley, Amy, Ben, and Brooke. She was also the adored matriarch to 11 great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Peyton, Maci, Rhett, Cash, Ella, Harlow, Sophie, Will, Thomas, and Corbin—with two more precious additions eagerly expected to arrive this year.

Gwen is also survived by her sister Ruth (Dirck) and her brothers George (Ingrid) and Jimmy (Marg), who will deeply miss her unique ability to bring the entire family together for lively brunches, unforgettable Christmas Eves, and family birthday parties.

Gwen’s family wishes to thank the incredible team of angels at the Journey Club at Westman Village in Calgary for making her final years full of comfort as she slipped away from us. She is resting easy now and forever and has gone ‘gentle into that good night’.

Family and close friends will meet for a private service out on the prairie that she loved and where she grew up and thrived as the best Mom, wife, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, and ‘Grandma Gwen’, friend, and loyal supporter of her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a charity of your choice in her memory or simply pause a moment to reflect on your own memories of Gwen.
