Mobile mammography service coming to Siksika Nation

Siksika Nation will have access to breast cancer screening services later this month when the Screen Test mobile mammography program visits the community.

The mobile mammography trailer will be stationed at the Siksika Health & Wellness Centre, offering screening mammograms at no cost to eligible individuals between the ages of 45 and 74 from Sept. 21-24.

Appointments are required and can be booked by calling 1-800-667-0604.

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and is used to help detect breast cancer at an early stage, when treatment may be more effective.

The Screen Test program operates mobile mammography clinics in Alberta communities where breast screening services are not readily available. The program is intended to improve access to screening for people who may otherwise have to travel to receive the service.

Individuals aged 45 to 74 can discuss their breast cancer risk with their healthcare provider to determine whether screening is appropriate. Screening can also be arranged through participating radiology clinics and some hospitals.
