MCNAMARA, Timothy Ernest
McNamara,Timothy Ernest
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy Ernest McNamara who passed away at his home with his wife of 36 years on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 68 after a short battle with cancer.
Tim was born in Calgary, Alberta, the only child of Reginald and Valerie McNamara. He is survived by his wife Anita (Timmerman), his mother Val (Chardon), seven siblings, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and their respective spouses and children.
Tim started his working life in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) at which time was located at Work Point Barracks in CFB Esquimalt affectionately nicknamed the “Hollywood Battalion”. Tim became an accomplished cook after receiving a course at CFB Borden, but his real love of cooking came from his grandmother Winnie as Tim spend his early years with his grandparent Ernest and Winifred McNamara. Then off to Vancouver to work at Expo 86 as security for the Saudi pavilion. BC Corrections became his next calling with the plan to work Expo Australia but instead met his wife whom he moved with to Vancouver Island and then back to Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Sheriffs was Tim last major career change, and he was very proud to have been part of the transition from CAPS to the very diverse Alberta Sheriffs which serve our province of Alberta in many capacities.
Tim interests included hunting, fishing, military and aviation history. Tim was an avid reader of all things so if you wanted to talk about politics, sports, history or your interests he would always be able to add something to the conversation. Tim also liked to tell a good joke and had a quick wit. Tim’s early love of drama with the Western Canada Youth Theatre served him well as a storyteller, communicator and negotiator. Tim was always interested in policing and served his communities in BC by being an Auxiliary with the RCMP “E” Division. There was never a dull moment when doing work in the lower mainland district and he had an equally exciting time in Ladysmith, BC.
A celebration of life will be held in Standard, Alberta on July 11th, 2026, from 1pm to 5 pm at the Seniors center.
If desired donations may be made in his name to any animal shelter or rescue group as he loved his fur family dearly.
