Man arrested in Strathmore following firearms discharge complaint

A man was arrested in the early hours of Aug. 2, in Strathmore following complaints of a reportedly discharged firearm in the block of Lakeside Boulevard. 

Kieon Northpeigan (30), who has no fixed address, was identified as the suspect, having been determined to have been ejected from a licensed premises after causing a disturbance.

Police released Northpeigan, who was noted to have returned to the location he had been removed from with a sawed-off shotgun, becoming a threat to nearby patrons. The gun in question was located in a nearby park hours following the incident.

Northpeigan has been charged with 14 offences, including seven firearms related charges, four counts for failure to comply with release conditions, mischief, resisting arrest, and uttering threats.

According to police, he remains in custody while the investigation is ongoing. He was scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice, Aug. 7. 

Information from the Court of Justice has not yet been obtained by the Strathmore Times regarding his appearance. 

Staff Sgt. Mark Weilgosz noted incidents such as these are rare and unwelcome within Strathmore, and no injuries were reported as a result of the encounter or arrest.
