With sadness we announce the passing of Dorien Ann Jackson (Provost) of Strathmore, Alberta on April 12, 2026.
Dorien was born March 21, 1934, the youngest of a family of eight. She was raised on the family farm near Wetaskiwin, Alberta. She attended school there until moving on to complete her nursing training at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton. Dorien married John Jackson in 1958. Together, they had two children, Graham and JoAnn. In 1965, Dorien and John moved to Calgary where John worked as a geologist and Dorien a registered nurse at the Foothills Hospital. In 1972, John and Dorien purchased a small farm east of Strathmore, where they built a home and raised a modest cow herd. Dorien was very involved with the cattle and loved gardening and yard work. Dorien also worked part time as the librarian in Gleichen for a number of years. Dorien and John remained on the farm until moving to Strathmore Wheatland Lodge in 2018. Dorien spent her last few years at Sagewood in Strathmore.
Dorien was predeceased by John in 2023. They were married for 64 years.
Dorien leaves behind her son, Graham (Suzanne) Jackson of Wheatland County, AB; daughter JoAnn (Steve) Vachon of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; grandsons Lachlan (Rachel) Jackson and Brendan Jackson (Christine Sullivan); granddaughter Keely Vachon; and great grandchildren Troy and Carly Jackson.
A funeral service for Dorien will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Strathmore Alliance Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Strathmore Cemetery.
