Hanson,Margaret Ada, nee Dobson
Margaret Ada Hanson, nee Dobson, 78, of Strathmore, Alberta, passed away on August 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Marg was born on May 24, 1948, in Regina, Saskatchewan. She moved around Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and BC with her family, and spent most of her school years in Chilliwack, BC. She moved to Calgary where she met Jim Hanson, and they were married on December 18, 1971. They raised their two daughters in Strathmore, Alberta.
Marg had a kind and caring heart, and much of her life was centered around the people and things she loved most. She always had a special place in her heart for children and spent her career working with them. She loved her family deeply and took great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother. At home, there was rarely a time when Marg didn’t have a Siamese cat by her side, and when the Toronto Blue Jays were playing, you could be sure she was watching and cheering them on. These simple joys, along with the love she had for her family, and the many children whose lives she touched, were a big part of who Marg was.
Marg is survived by her husband, Jim, with whom she shared nearly 55 years of marriage. She will also be remembered by her daughters Corina (Robin) Skavberg and Michelle Hilton; her grandchildren Rebecca (Josh), Janelle, and Troy; and her great-grandson Silas. She was predeceased by her mother Joyce, her brother Earl, and her sister Winnifred. She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Anne (Bill) Alcock and Dorothy (Albert) Matula, her large extended family, and her friends. Marg is also lovingly remembered by Lori, a daughter she placed for adoption many years ago.
As per her request, there will be a small graveside service at the Strathmore Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers in the Strathmore Palliative Care Team, the Strathmore Hospital, and the Arthur J. E. Child Cancer Centre who provided compassionate care during Marg’s final days.
