Cretin (Brown),  Hilda Theresa

Hilda Theresa Cretin (Brown), of Brooks, Alberta, died on April 02nd, 2026 at Sunrise Gardens in Brooks, Alberta at the age of 93 years. She was born April 20th, 1932, to Duncan and Sadie Brown of New Victoria, Nova Scotia. Hilda completed Nova Scotia Provincial Normal College training and graduated in 1951 with a First-Class Teachers Certificate. She taught in Nova Scotia and in 1955, along with several friends, she moved to Cluny to teach at Crowfoot School. She married Charles Cretin of Cluny on July 03rd, 1957. Hilda and Charlie had two children, Don and Patty. They farmed in the Cluny area, until a move to Brooks in 1972, where she has resided since. Hilda is survived by her brother William (Bill) Brown and his spouse Donna of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, her son, Don and his spouse Cathy of Carstairs and her daughter Patty of Calgary. She was preceded in death by her spouse Charlie, her brother Dan, and sisters Martha and Winnie. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21st at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks. Rev. Kelvin Chukwurah officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in New Victoria, Nova Scotia, at a later date. The Cretin family would like to thank Dr. Thomson for her lifetime of care and also the staff at Sunrise Gardens for their care and support in mom’s latter years.
