Strathmore will be hosting the best youth communicators in our region

By Natalie Winters Calgary Regional 4-H

For over a hundred years the 4-H program has released some of the top orators in our province. These youth have gone on to influence the next generation, become CEO’s of corporations and shape our government.

On March 23, competitors will converge at the Strathmore Civic Centre to establish the best communicators in the Calgary region. These 4-H members, ages 9-21, will be competing in either the speech or presentation category and hail from clubs across the region. Over 15 4-H clubs will be represented including Crowfoot Multi, Ropes and Reins, Prairie Winds, Legendary Flatlands, and Sundre Multi to name a few.

To get to the regional level members have competed and placed either first or second at their club, area and district level.

Creating a speech or presentation that grabs attention is part of the game, with titles like “The Storm Under My Skin,” “The World’s Greatest Mystery” and “The Elephant in the Room.” This Saturday’s event will be both entertaining and educating.

For both the junior and intermediate members, regionals is as far as they can advance. The seniors who place first or second will then move on to the provincial level which takes place at Olds College on April 6.

The Calgary Regional 4-H Communications event starts with speeches in the morning at 10 a.m. and presentations at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and support these young communicators March 23 at the Strathmore Civic Centre.
