Hiller, Jack William

Hiller,Jack William

1951-2023

It is with the utmost sadness that the family of Jack William Hiller announces his passing at the age of 71.  On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Jack lost his courageous, hard-fought battle against cancer at the Strathmore Hospital with loved ones by his side.

Born in Bassano on May 6, 1951, to Francis (Kuzma) and Emil Hiller, he and his four brothers grew up on a family farm in the Hussar area. One of Jack’s first jobs was as a teller at the Hussar Credit Union and that would set in motion a long and distinguished career that lasted nearly 40 years at numerous credit unions in Alberta. Jack climbed the ladder to manager and Chief Financial Officer and worked in Lethbridge, Wetaskiwin, Drumheller, Hussar, Brooks, and Strathmore. His career took him to many places and introduced him to many colleagues, co-workers, and patrons, many of whom remained close friends. A true testament as to how well respected and loved Jack was throughout his life.

After his retirement, Jack kept busy enjoying his hobbies which included golfing, gardening, canning, fishing, and woodworking. His generous gifts of salsa and other canned and fresh goodies from his garden will be greatly missed. The beautiful woodwork items he made for family and friends will be treasured for many years to come.

Jack leaves to mourn his beloved wife Nancy, sons Clark (Shari), Derrick (Amanda), grandchildren, Ethan, Maya, Nash, Silas, and Brooklynn. Brothers Roger (Cathy) and Manville (Karen) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Jack was predeceased by his parents, brothers Emil and Mark and by his son Jon.

Now that the pain and sickness are gone, it is hoped that Jack is at peace in his heavenly home and there is a very good chance he is visiting with family and friends with a cold beer in hand.

A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held on Saturday, November 4 at the Strathmore Alliance Church beginning at 1 p.m. with a luncheon to follow. The service will be live streamed on the Wheatland Funeral Home’s YouTube channel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Bridges Society in Strathmore or to the charity of one’s choice.
