July 10, 2021 – Strathmore, Alberta

On Saturday, July 10, 2021 our dear Mom and Grandma, Laura Edwards, passed away peacefully in Strathmore, AB. At 96 years of age, she gently slipped into the loving arms of Jesus.

Laura was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925, in Calgary, AB, and was named Laura Esther Lillian Edwards. She was the middle daughter of Gwillym and Margret Edwards. Laura trained at the Calgary General Hospital becoming a Registered Nurse in 1948. She was well loved by staff and students, receiving the Plate Award for upholding the spirit of nursing, and the Dr. Gibson Award, given to the graduate who was most influential in preserving the ideals and ethics of her class. Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of Alberta in 1949, and began working in Public Health. She married Art Edwards in 1952, and they lived in Lethbridge, Sedgewick, and finally Strathmore, a town she loved. Laura was known for her huge welcoming smile, her joyful presence, her love for people, and her deep love for God. She was a woman of faith and a woman of prayer. Laura volunteered for the Strathmore Ambulance, Meals on Wheels, and Strathmore’s Crisis Line. She was involved in the local church, and volunteered at the Strathmore Hospital for 26 years.  She enjoyed quilting, hardanger embroidery, painting, and knitting. Laura especially enjoyed the Care group she and Art attended, and time spent with her four daughters and their families.

Laura is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Roger Snoxell, Donna and John Munch, Norma and Don Giovanetto, and Anne and Keith Braun; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Snoxell, Jonathan (Taylor) Snoxell, Stephen (Brianna) Giovanetto, Lisa Giovanetto, Laura Giovanetto and Bethany Giovanetto.

Laura was predeceased by her loving husband Art Edwards, and sisters, Irene and Enid.

A recording of a Private Celebration of Laura’s Life will be posted on YouTube for friends and family. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Laura’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The Family would like to extend their deep thanks to Dr. Young, and the nurses and care workers at Sagewood, the Strathmore Hospital, the Wheatland Lodge, and the many people who cared for Mom (and Dad) over the years.  All of them went above and beyond in caring for Mom with love, gentleness and kindness in her final years.

In living memory of Laure Edwards, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403-248-8585.
