The body of a local missing person was recovered from the Western Irrigation District Canal near George Freeman Trail on the morning of Aug. 14.

Strathmore RCMP responded to a report by a pedestrian walking on the adjacent trail who observed what they believed was the remains of an individual in the canal, said Staff Sgt. Dale Morgan.

The RCMP responded to the scene, verified the report, and with the help of the Strathmore Fire Department and civil enforcement, recovered the body of a man, he said.

The identity of the individual was confirmed to be that of a missing person from a Strathmore residence, said Morgan. His identity was not disclosed.

The remains are being transported for autopsy.
