Doll Sisters and Fred Penner to perform in Strathmore

The Strathmore Musical Arts Society has lined up three great shows to begin 2019.
Their first event is a dinner and concert by the Doll Sisters, Feb. 9, at Strathmore Golf Course. Shannon McAuley is the opening act.
“(The Doll Sisters) are drawing from their Irish-Scottish background,” said Linda Storkson, Strathmore Musical Arts Society (SMAS) president, “but they’re dealing with roots in rock as well. If people are looking for a really unique, different style of music, this is the one to come to because these girls have lots of spirit and attitude.”
Shelby and Jenna Leigh Doll, from Rocky Mountain House, were the Edmonton Folk Festival’s Emerging Artist of the Year and have been nominees for Canadian Folk Music Awards and Alberta Country Music Awards. They’ve opened for Paul Brandt and Doc Walker, and they released their third album in 2018.
Fred Penner is performing the second SMAS concert, March 15, at Hope Covenant Community Church.
It’ll be a “fun night for the kids and parents and those that love Fred Penner,” Storkson said. “It’s just going to be an awesome night.”
Penner will perform old favourites such as The Cat Came Back and The Sandwich Song, she said, and may surprise the audience with new music.
Storkson expressed gratitude to corporate sponsors who’ve made it possible for SMAS to price children’s tickets at $2, adults’ tickets at $10 and families’ tickets for $20.
“We want it to be a gift to the community,” she said.
SMAS’ third concert of the year is by the Nova Scotiables, a Calgary-based kitchen party band from Nova Scotia, that will perform April 6 at the Legion.
“(SMAS is) bringing the best we have to the community,” Storkson said. “We’re bringing in top quality entertainment. That’s why we do this – to support live music and culture in Strathmore.”
Tickets for the Doll Sisters and Fred Penner events are available at Assist Business Centre, Authentic Roots Salon, Pro Water Systems, Strathmore Golf Club and Chinook Financial, and from Linda Storkson at 403-934-3254. Fred Penner tickets are also available at Hope Covenant Community Church.
