Agrium charged with environmental offenses

Environmental charges have been laid against Agrium Inc. (now known as Nutrien) after a January 2017 incident at the company’s nitrogen operations near Carseland.
The Alberta government laid two charges against Agrium Inc. under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act related to offences that occurred on or about Jan. 30, 2017.
The charges include releasing or permitting the release into the environment of a substance that causes or may cause a significant adverse effect and failing to report a release upon learning of the release.
The first court appearance is set for Jan. 24, 2019 at the Calgary Courts Centre.
