Registration recently opened for the Strathmore Community Football Association (SCFA) 2016 fall regular season.
The SCFA operates three football programs in the Strathmore area, and in 2015, the SCFA adopted the team name “Badgers.”
After a successful spring camp the number of players interested already looks promising in the peewee, bantam and senior teams.
“We are excepting decent numbers,” said Carl Seafoot, the president of SCFA. “Judging by the start of the first night, registration looks pretty good so far.”
Seafoot plans on keeping registration open until mid-September to allow for any interested players who may be away or waiting to see what their school schedule is like. Until the games start, the teams will have practices to improve their skills.
Some staffing changes are being made: Sean Seafoot is now the head coach of the senior team while Brad Middlemiss is the head coach of the bantam team. Middlemiss had originally stepped down last year as senior coach due to work conflicts. Doug Thiessen remains head coach of the peewee team. There will be no changes to the teams’ leagues this year.
The peewee team will continue to play in the Central Peewee Football League, the bantam team in the Central Bantam Football League and the senior team will play their second year in the Mountain View Football Conference.
Seafoot said he hopes the teams do well and make it to provincials.
“Ultimately it is how well they perform as a team to accomplish that mission,” said Seafoot. “So it is nice to get into provincials but it’s not that easy a road to get there.”
Last year the peewee team won the B division, but there were no provincial playoffs for that division. The bantam had a good regular season but lost in their league playoffs. The senior team had some problems in their nine-man league, but Seafoot has hopes for them doing better this year.
Regular season games will begin for the senior and peewee teams around the beginning of September, while the bantam team will have to wait until mid-September.
