The Wheatland Warriors are starting to find their rhythm after picking up a pair of wins in their two games over the weekend, as they continued to battle for top spot in an ultra-tight South Division.
“The guys are starting to come together and building a little bit of chemistry,” said head coach Cody Brown. “I think we’re taking a step in the right direction here. Everybody’s kind of starting to know where each other is out there and we’re seeing a big difference.”
In the 4-3 win over Okotoks, Brown felt as though the team was able to capitalize at opportune times.
“Our scoring right now is fairly spread out, everybody’s contributing and it’s definitely paying off for us,” he said.
Ben Kruse scored three goals to lead the charge, while Kyle Bray added one goal to round out the offense.
Brown added in the 8-2 win against Lethbridge on Sunday was a prime example of what his team can do when they play a full 60 minutes.
“We have a lot of talent in the room and I think the guys are really coming together,” said Brown. “I think we’ve got a great team and looking forward to see how things go down the road.”
Max Kathol led the way with three goals, Mo Hakim notched two, while Brandon Kasdorf, Anson McMaster and Max Schafer scored in the rout over Lethbridge.
The local bantam double-A team will hit the road for two games this weekend starting against the Foothills Bisons on Nov. 21 at 4:30 p.m. before playing Cranbrook on Sunday afternoon at 1:45 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Wheatland Braves won their lone game of the weekend on Friday, 4-2 over the Foothills Bisons.
Tristan Zandee scored two goals, while Adam Kirkpatrick and Tegan Skehar added one each in the win.
The local double-A peewee team will be on the road as well when they face-off against the Central Alberta Selects on Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. and will be in Red Deer playing at 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 22.
The Wheatland Chiefs, who is in the midst of a two week break, will be back in action on Nov. 28 when they travel to Okotoks.
