The Strathmore Ringette U12B team is really excited to be provincial hosts to 11 teams from all over the province from March 13-15 at the Strathmore Family Centre.
“These teams that have made it to this point have played down in their division and now these 12 teams are going to battle it out for the best of Alberta to win the provincial banner,” said Kim Bailie, Strathmore Ringette Association tournament organizer.
Bailie admits it has been a lot of work to host a big tournament such as provincials, but there will be lots of festivities for the players.
“We had to put a bid to Ringette Alberta and we were going up against Lethbridge Ringette and we won the bid because we’re incorporated the ‘coming and try-it’ so that other girls can see what ringette is all about and maybe someday participate in a provincial event,” said Bailie. “It’s quite an undertaking to host provincials because this year we’re providing the participants with a banquet and first thing is the opening ceremonies on March 13 where they get called in and announced as a team and then they have a skills competition which is pretty much just for fun”
The U12B squads have battled all year to get to this point and Strathmore was fortunate enough to get the bye into the tournament as the host team.
“As far as the season goes, they had a slow start but they’ve come a long way and are more than ready for provincials,” said Bailie. “They’re going to have to battle in provincials and we’re excited to see them play.”
The Strathmore U12B Ice will begin play on March 13 (2:45 p.m.) versus Spruce Grove while the opening ceremonies go at 4:30 p.m.
Their second game before will be March 14 (9:15 a.m.) versus the Bow View Venom. Games will also be going all weekend starting at 9 a.m.
