Jordan Ostrom, known to her fans as Sykamore, is off to Toronto to take part in the Canadian Country Music Association’s (CCMA) Discovery Week. The program, which began in 2013, is a national initiative that was created to educate and support artists in their country music career pursuit.
Ostrom made it into the final six this year and is currently taking part in seminars to learn more about radio, social media and team building.
“Just a whole bunch of really great tools to polish you as a performer and push you forward in the industry – and then at the end of it all – you get to showcase for a bunch of industry people,” said Ostrom.
“It basically just helps shine a spotlight on you as an artist and helps you learn how to how to carry yourself.”
In September she will be flown to Halifax for the CCMA awards, and will get a chance to showcase herself there. There will be a three hour showcase held on the 10th, curing Country Music Week, where the six acts will be spotlighted. Each will have a full concert production, will be backed by a house band, and will have a chance to perform in front of people in the music industry and fans.
During the awards one act will be chosen to receive the Discovery Award. The winner will receive funding to help with a music video, courtesy of CMT Canada, a performance spotlight on the 2016 CMA Music Festival Global Party showcase in Nashville, and other industry related prizes.
