Rosebud School of the Arts second, third and fourth-year students are hiring themselves out. Their Hire-a-Student project is raising funds for theatre trips to Canada’s West Coast and London, England, where they’ll attend theatre productions, take acting workshops, and meet experienced theatre professionals, while experiencing the landscape and history of other parts of the world. Students are willing to perform indoor and outdoor tasks like cleaning, painting and shovelling, or share artistic gifts through activities such as reading aloud to children or seniors, performing music and making visual art, for a recommended minimum of $15 an hour. “Our students are ready to serve,” wrote David Snider, Rosebud School of the Arts (RSA) faculty member, in an e-mail. “They’re accustomed to offering hospitality and quality service through their work at the Rosebud Mercantile.” You can hire a student before Feb. 15 by contacting Sarah Penner at 403-334-3365. On Jan. 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the students will also host Immersion, a performance showcase fundraiser at Rosebud Church, where they’ll perform mostly-original songs, stories, scenes, choreography and stage combat. A silent auction from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. will accompany the performance. Its offerings include original art, baked goods, fun and practical services, quality handmade crafts and Rosebud Theatre tickets. Showcase tickets can be purchased at the door for $12. You can buy them in advance at www.indiegogo.com/projects/rosebud-school-of-the-arts-theatre-trips for $10 per single ticket, or $50 for two tickets plus a tax receipt. View silent auction items on Facebook: Immersion Silent Auction, where online bids may also be placed during the hours of the auction. You may donate to the silent auction before Jan. 25 by contacting Chantal Marsolais at 306-292-7388. “Please come partner with the students in supporting their growth and discovery as theatre artists,” Jeany Snider, RSA faculty member, wrote in an e-mail. “Be blessed by their work and enjoy an afternoon full of good things, good art and good theatre.”
