The Rockyford Ringers U16B ringette team defended their provincial title for the third straight season in Fort Saskatchewan on March 15.
“I think we should be very proud of the accomplishment. We’ve got nine kids on the team and who comes out to play is who is on the team,” said team manager Fiona Elder. “It went very well, they won all of their games through the round robin, quarter and semi finals so it was good.”
The efforts were consistent throughout the tournament in all the games.
“In their first game, they were down by one with nine seconds left in the game, they tied it up, it went into overtime and they won it in the five minute sudden death overtime,” said Elder.
What has made this run special is that it has been the same group of girls that have been together on this streak.
“Typically it’s every second year because of the age group, but this the same group that had to move up last year and combine two age groups to make a team. Eight of the girls have played together for the last three years,” said Elder. “Last year we had two that joined up and those two moved up to another team this year.”
