The Village of Rockyford will be hosting their 58th annual rodeo, and despite the decline of small-town rodeos, this rodeo only seems to be growing.
The event will run through the weekend of July 24-26 at the Rockyford Ag Grounds and is expected to see about 1,000 people at the event.
“This weekend is huge for all local businesses,” said Justin Geeraert, the Rockyford Lions Club president. “They get a lot of business over the weekend and it draws a lot of money into the Lions Club. All that money goes back into the community, so all in all it is a major event for the small community of Rockyford.”
The event will have the usual rodeo events such as bull riding, saddle broncs, calf-roping and chuckwagons.
There will be local events such as sheep riding and miniature wild horse racing on Saturday and Sunday.
Rodeo fans will also be able to enjoy pancake breakfasts, BBQ beef suppers and outdoor beer gardens. At the end of the Friday, families can enjoy some old-fashioned fun at the family dance; while cowboys can showcase their dance moves at the Cowboy Ball on Saturday.
