Wheatland Inline Hockey association is rolling into another season and is looking for more players this campaign.
President Lynne Kozma has been pleasantly surprised with the increased numbers because of players being organized into their own age groups this season.
“I hoping to hit the 100 player mark this year at least, if not a little better, I was at 99 last year. We’re opening it up to more competitive (as) there seems to be interest, but again it’s floor time so we have to see how that all goes,” said Kozma. “I know our numbers are better too because we’re now playing age group against age group. This was my big year of doing that, like we had 11 to 15-year-olds, whereas last year were exact ages.”
The association also took part in the REVS fair on Feb. 11.
“I was disappointed in REVS this year, I could not believe the lack of turnout,” she said. “Last year I was on my own and I was swamped and this year, there was hardly anyone there.
“I like REVS because I take my book and I set it out and I got some of the gear out, people will stop and say ‘oh I didn’t know that was ran here,’ “
She only had one new player register and all the rest were returning ones.
“I hope this is one of my big success years, another thing I hope is that I have more interaction (and) come home with medals from tournaments,” said Kozma.
Costs to play in the 2015 Wheatland Inline Hockey season will be $140 before April 1, and a couple hundred extra for the travelling teams.
