Learning is a lifelong process, and with the back-to-school season looming adult learners can get excited too, with the course offerings from Wheatland Further Education Society (WFES).
WFES is a non-profit society that promotes learning in adults within Wheatland County and runs on a community-based learning system. This means bringing the learning into the community rather than the other way around. This is to encourage a passion for learning.
“WFES is often the first point of access for learners,” said Joyce Bazant, the executive director.
“Its focus is to establish a community where adult learners can participate with confidence and fulfill their learning needs.”
Bazant explained that the society’s vision is about being an associate to adult learners to encourage learning and therefore improve the community as a whole.
The society will be releasing their course calendar in the Sept. 3 issue of the Strathmore Times. The calendar will feature the 40 classes offered in the fall semester that runs from September to mid-December. The classes all fall within different subjects that are offered. The subjects include English language learning,
French as a second language, literacy and foundational learning, business, finance and computers, personal development, safety and wellness, and general interest. They also offer children & youth classes.
