Family Day is coming up on Feb. 16, and organizers are once again hoping residents will unplug and head outdoors. The day will start off with the annual pancake breakfast hosted by the Cheadle Lions at the Strathmore Civic Centre.
“The pancake breakfast is always really busy, so we recommend people to get there early and plan to stay awhile,” said Tracy Simpson, community services coordinator for the Town of Strathmore.
The breakfast will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a magician, face painting and balloon twisters for entertainment.
“At the same time the Youth Club is doing their carnival again at the high school, which is pretty cool, they have made all the games and the kids will get a prize for participating,” said Simpson.
The Carseland Kids Wellness Coalition will be working with the Youth Club to host the Kids Carnival. All of the kids have been hard at work, coming up with different game ideas.
Following breakfast the Healthy Eating, Active (HEAL) Living Coalition is once again hosting the Great Skate at Kinsmen Park from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be wagon rides, music, hotdogs and hot chocolate.
To wrap the day up nicely, families are invited to go for a swim at the Aquatic Centre, courtesy of the 5 for Life coalition from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“We’re going to have a passport for the day and so if you go to all of the events you can get a stamp and then hand your passport in (at any location) or at the end at the pool, and we’ll be doing some draws for some fun family prize packs,” said Simpson.
All of the events are free to attend and will happen rain or shine. Keep an eye on the Town of Strathmore Facebook page for any updates on the Family Day activities.
