Flu ridden Bisons tie Tigers

The UFA Bisons were able to manage a 3-3 tie with the Medicine Hat Tigers on the road on Jan. 10.
The majority of the lineup was battling the flu bug; they created chances at times, but had limited energy.
“We had four or five guys that have been sick this last week and we cancelled practice Thursday because of guys that just couldn’t make it and another couple of guys that have been sick since,” said head coach Dan MacDonald. “We’re just happy we didn’t have two games this weekend so we can recover a little bit.”
MacDonald admits that because of the illness, the team was incapable of playing to full potential.
“We didn’t play the same way we have been playing. I think we tried hard but weren’t the same guys,” said MacDonald. “We were still trying to win of course and we scored in the last 58 seconds just to get a tie, that’s a good thing for us to be able to that. I thought the other team played well too, their goaltender was good, we had some good chances and we could’ve put them away.”
The Tigers were able to take advantage of the less-than-healthy Bisons and were sharp throughout the game.
“Medicine Hat moved the puck really well and they kept us on our heels a lot of the night. There were times we had difficulty getting out of our own end,” said MacDonald.
Trgve Many Guns, Kyle Gordon and Shane Fraser supplied the offense.
The Bisons will regroup at practice this week and going down the stretch want to tighten up defensively and finish off checks more in their own end heading into the playoffs.
Next up will be on Jan. 17 in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes (2:15 p.m.) and then a Sunday showdown at home on Jan. 18 versus the Calgary Buffaloes (2 p.m.).
