Boundary Road area targeted for break ins

Half a dozen break-ins have been identified in the Carseland and Dalmead area within the last month and the public is urged to call the RCMP if they see any more suspicious activity in the area.
“At Boundary Road over here, about a mile up from the river hill, about a month ago a service truck was stolen, it’d be two weeks ago, a house was broken into and there was about $15,000 worth of guns stolen,” said Wheatland County Councilor Don Vander Velde said on Dec. 2.
“They’re professional, they broke into a house through a patio door and didn’t trash the house at all. But they took the guns, booze and cash.”
He added that the people who brought the concern to light are well aware of what is happening as these thieves have stolen vehicles and broken into properties and have left them destroyed. The consistent targets have been farms in the area.
Strathmore RCMP Sgt. Steve Vince wanted to make the public aware that break and enters do happen and there are safety precautions that people should take when not in the vicinity of their homes and vehicles.
“There’s been some break and enters,” said Vince.
“But no more than normal. I think the best thing for people to do is to keep their vehicles locked, keep their houses locked and keep valuables out of site.”
However, Vince said the break-in and enters have no connections and there is no evidence that anything out of the ordinary is occurring.
