Consultant Ken Kendall spoke to council in chambers on June 9, about his recommendations for long term operation plans for Strathmore Rural firefighting response and rescue areas; however, the session was closed to the public and held in-camera.
No details of the report were given and a subsequent suppression motion limited the public’s chance to view details, prior to a June 17 council meeting.
“We hadn’t been given a chance to review it and come up with recommendations,” said CAO Alan Parkin. “We wanted to be able to do that, so we could address questions from council and the public.”
Council moved that Kendall present the full plan and all documentation pertaining to the plan to administrative staff, which was tasked with assessing the report, developing recommendations, and presenting their recommendations. They were also charged to develop an action plan with necessary policy and procedures and bylaw amendments. Everything will be presented in council on June 17. Copies will be available for distribution to the public on June 17, and placed on the county website after the meeting. Updates will be posted  at www.wheatlandcounty.ca
A Town Hall meeting will be held at 8 p.m. that evening at the Carseland Community Hall to inform the residents of the contents of the report.
