Strathmore Vision Clinic is doing their part to help promote universal eye health as they participate in the World Sight Day Challenge this month. The challenge helps give the gift of vision to those who are in need.
Throughout the month of October the clinic will host a 50/50 draw, with the final draw happening on Oct. 31. On Oct. 9, during World Sight Day the clinic is also hosting a bake sale with 100 per cent of the proceeds going towards the over 600 million people in the world who are either blind or have impaired vision due to limited or no access to eye exams and/or glasses.
“We have supported Optometry Giving Sight for four years,” said Dr. Anderson in a press release.
“Preventable blindness is a solvable problem and we are proud to help give sight to those in need. We are thrilled to be contributing towards this year’s $1 million goal, which will improve the lives of many people.”
This is the seventh year for the World Sight Day Challenge and the goal for 2014 is to raise $1 million globally, and is run by the charity Optometry Giving Sight.
To date more than 67 projects in 38 countries have been funded by the charity. For more information about the initiative go to www.givingsight.org.
