Strathmore product Kirby Ruzesky could not be more honoured to be the new captain of the Wheatland Kings.
He and his assistant captains, Brayden Beckley, Devin Westby and Blake Bishop, are looking forward to provide leadership for the local Junior B hockey team.
“It’s definitely an honour. If you can play junior hockey in your hometown and get the ‘C’, it’s a real nice bonus,” said Ruzesky. “I just look forward to doing whatever I can to helping the team win. I hadn’t played in Strathmore for a few years now, so it’s nice being back and hopefully bring some good playoff hockey to Strathmore.”
Ruzesky wants to keep the players in the room disciplined and make sure they are focused come game time.
“We want to keep the boys in line, have fun, but not too much, and when it’s time to play… everybody’s giving it their all out there to win,” said Ruzesky. “I’m an older guy too, so I lead by example, make the simple and smart plays. I got a good support group going with Beckley, Westby and Bishop.”
Ruzesky currently has nine goals and 10 assists in 14 games and is third in team scoring.
