The Strathmore Super Series Youth Rodeo is hosting its third show July 5-6 and organizers would love to see the community come out and cheer the young cow folk on.
“It would be so fantastic to have a crowd there in the infield,” said Crystal Stevens, who created the event along with the Aleman family.
Both families had wanted to keep rodeo alive with the youth in the community.
The rodeo is free to attend, and is a great way to kick off the rodeo season in Strathmore.
“They can actually sit in the infield which is kind of nice, and the Legion is going to have a concession, so they can come and spend a day, eat, and sit in the infield and be up and close to the action,” said Stevens.
Contestants range in ages three to 16, and spectators will experience a range of skill levels, from beginner right up to national qualifiers. The kids will be competing in a number of favourite rodeo activities like pole bending, goat tying, team roping, break away roping, steer daubing, steer riding, wild pony racing and lots more.
Last year there were over 400 entries and Stevens suspects the numbers will be close to that again this year. Both the Stevens’ and the Alemans would like to see everyone come out and watch this year’s event. It’s a great way to show support for the younger kids, it’s free and it makes the kids feel good to know their community is behind them.
The rodeo begins at 10 a.m. July 5-6 and will run all day.
