The Strathmore Minor Ringette Association (SMRA) are in need of volunteers on and off the ice for the 2014/2015 season.
“We basically have a board of directors which are all volunteers. There is at least 15 of us that volunteer on the board of directors of the association,” said Kim Stanlake-Cammer, director of coaching for Strathmore ringette.
“We have 13 teams and all of the head coaches, assistant coaches and everyone that helps out for each team are volunteers.”
The association is currently looking for on-ice helpers for the evaluations which will run from Sept. 13 to 20. The on-ice helpers will assist with all the stations set up on the ice, making sure they are coordinated with the instructors so they are ran efficiently.
“We usually call on our coaches and parents. Last year we had people that are not even a part of our association that were helping with that. We will be looking again for lots of volunteers to help run the different stations for our on-ice evaluations,” said Stanlake-Cammer.
The numbers of volunteers are comparable to past years, but the changes to the evaluations determined more were needed this year.
“The change to the process that is sent down from Ringette Alberta, the way it’s set up is to have more people on ice for certain evaluations,” said Stanlake-Cammer.
“There has been some changes made to the evaluation processes which means that we need more people on the ice and because we run evaluations for every single age group, you can’t always get the same people for every ice time.”
Stanlake-Cammer added that volunteers are usually called upon at other bigger events such as home tournaments and to run the score clocks and the penalty box.
